Becky Kemp, a budding artist planted in South-East England, is influenced by Nordic design and Japanese illustrations. Her bubbly personality led her to establish Sketch – an intimate design house selling small accessories, stationary, home ware and toys.
Originally made in Japan hundreds of years ago, Japanese Kokeshi Dolls have stood the test of time and remain a popular Japanese gift. Uniquely, Kokeshi Dolls are traditionally carved without arms or legs, instead having a simple trunk with an enlarged head to imitate the human shape, featuring intricate detailing to add some charm. Becky’s toys mirror the well-known hand painted Kokeshi Doll inspired by traditional Japanese wooden figurines, however Becky puts her own spin on the design reflecting creative characters of the likesof Jackson Pollock, Vincent Van Gogh, Piet Mondrian, Andy Warhol, Karl Lagerfeld, Coco Chanel, Anna Wintour, Marc Jacobs, Salvador Dali and also more.
